Couples Halloween Costumes
In celebration of Halloween, also in lack of our spirits this year, I wanted to post a recap of all the costumes Kevin and I have had since we started dating. With the wedding in the beginning of October, we didn’t have enough creative juices flowing to split thinking about the wedding and Halloween. We typically decide and order things for our costume starting at the end of August and there just wasn’t enough time this year! So here it goes.
Moonrise Kingdom - Suzy Bishop and Sam ‘17
Photos by Candace Choi
October 2017 – Before this I didn’t really dress up all that much, but when I did I spent the time looking at the details. Luckily, Kevin loved dressing up for Halloween and this was the beginning of the many couple costumes to come. At the time, we recently watched Moonrise Kingdom together and couldn’t help but naturally think about possibly being Suzy and Sam. If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s a must! Wes Anderson is impeccable, the angles, coloring, story, and setting of it all are beautiful. Not only that but Suzy and Sam have a special young love and find acceptance within each other, it’s the sweetest thing. Deciding on these 2 was a no-brainer and I absolutely love that it was our first costume. We asked our good friend Candace to see if she could get some photos of us and she went above and beyond! She really captured the angles, and coloring of Wes Anderson. These photos are now living on our living room wall.
Titanic - Jack & Rose ‘18

October 2018 – Jack and Rose. The Titanic. First off, I want to mention that Kevin loves this movie so much and his celebrity crush is Leonardo DiCaprio. I love this movie as well, but the heartbreak of it all is too much for myself to handle. Nonetheless, we love them and went all in on this. We decided since we wanted to be them, we wanted to be a specific scene within The Titanic. What better than the iconic scene where Rose hogs the wood door and Jack selflessly lets her float on it while he spoil alert freezes to death? So we had our good friend, Elvis do our makeup and put white flakes on our eyelashes and hair to really be the cherry on top of it all. While we were out at Tempe Halloween, Ted caught a photo of us and a friend, Bobby Green, as a double dipping costume. Essentially he was our wooden door as Manramp, it was perfect!
Up - Carl Fredricksen, Russell & Doug ‘19
Photos by Ben Edwards
October 2019 – My absolute favorite costume! We went in knowing that we wanted to incorporate Peanut in our costume. We tried to think of all the movies we could that had an iconic dog and what better than Up? Doug was such a star character and on top of that, Up was my absolute favorite Pixar movie there was. It was a real jerker! It caught all the emotions from beginning to end and we were determined to find all the details within this costume to really sell it. I’ll be honest and say this was the heaviest costume we ever did! As far as details go. From the grape soda pin, and wilderness explorer sash to all the details head to toe, we wanted to be sure to get it all! I’m so beyond stoked that Ben graced us with his presence and captured photos of us all in our moment as Carl, Russell, and Doug.
Edward Scissorhands - Edward Scissorhands & Peg Boggs ‘21
Makeup by Sidnei Taylor Makeup
October 2021 – Who doesn’t love Edward Scissorhands? From the moment we started doing couple costumes, we always played with the idea of being Edward Scissorhands and this was the year that we did! It’s such a staple movie and not one just for the holidays, it’s a year-round heart-felt little gem. As much as I love Winona Ryder, I wasn’t crazy about Kim. Her love for Edward didn’t feel as genuine as I felt like it should have. So instead, I decided to be Peg Boggs– the mother. Her kindness and welcoming arms toward Edward were so sweet. I love her Avon-self and the heart she carried. I knew I had to be her, so I found my best matching 2-piece purple outfit and went as her– just with a small modern twist :)
